But 1960s London is not what it appears, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences…” “Last Night in Soho” was originally set to debut in 2020, but the pandemic forced the film into 2021 instead....

It was the twist that got Krysty Wilson-Cairns. For her second feature film, the Oscar-nominated “1917” screenwriter again embraced a creatively challenging collaboration to bring a vivid story to the big screen, but it all started with one clever (if divisive) idea from director and co-writer Edgar Wright. Amid the CGI chaos of the closing’s stitched-together oners — tracking Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) as they try to reach an escape pod that never stood a chance of escaping — my mind drifted back to two earlier explosions. To an elderly, unnamed woman, resigned to die where she lived, and refusing to tolerate any tomfoolery from two “devils” aiming to trick her. This Lamentian Homesteader played by Susan Gallagher (as she’s identified in the credits) dispatches the God of Mischief and his powerful compatriot with decisive, consecutive bursts from a futuristic shotgun....

Gabriel Akuwudike, Yasen Atour, Amelia Kenworthy, Nia Towle, Ben Daniels, Nicholas Woodeson, and Sam Hazeldine have been cast in the series, which serves as a prequel to J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic fantasy series. Hazeldine replaces Joseph Mawle, who played the Ork leader Adar in the first season of the series; a reason for the casting change was not given. The other new cast members’ roles are currently being kept under wraps, but all of them join the show in a recurring capacity....

The documentary “Mija” centers on Doris Anahí Muñoz and singer Jacks Haupt, both of whom hail from undocumented Mexican-American families. The new “Night of the Living Dead” film will be an expansion of the 1968 original and is being conceived as a potential franchise, though plot details are being kept under wraps. LaToya Morgan of “The Walking Dead” fame is writing the script. Village Roadshow is putting together the film as a package to be presented to buyers at the upcoming American Film Market. They’ll be partnering with Chris Romero and George A....

The Documentary “Sidney,” directed by Academy Award nominee Reginald Hudlin (“Marshall”), focuses on Poitier’s career as an actor, filmmaker, and activist during the Civil Rights Movement. Interviews with Denzel Washington, Spike Lee, Halle Berry, Robert Redford, Lenny Kravitz, and Barbra Streisand frame the film, which is produced by Oprah Winfrey and Derik Murray in close collaboration with the Poitier family. Winfrey’s Harpo Productions and the Network Entertainment produce the Apple Original Film, set to debut September 23 on AppleTV+ and in select theaters....
